Here at Vergalle NV in Oudenaarde (Belgium) we consider quality, know-how, reliability and flexibility the pillars of our vision. These values have made us one of the largest national steel companies. Our company produces 200,000 tonnes of first-grade steel per year, with clients in every corner of Europe. Every day our 45 enthusiastic employees do the maximum to provide our customers with optimum service.
Strong in steel since 1950
The story of our steel company starts in 1950 when father and son Vergalle expand their plumbing firm into a retail business in steel products. Thanks to their extensive knowledge and experience several extensions soon follow. One of these new businesses was Vergalle NV, which focused on cutting steel sheets and strips.
In 1988, Frank Vergalle takes over the lead from his father. He expands the steel company with the same passion and enthusiasm up to the point where the site becomes too small for our activities. In 1999 Vergalle NV leaves the Gentstraat site to move to a larger industrial area in Leupegem.
Targeted investments, relentless innovation in terms of machinery, automation and digitalization and – last but not least – a fantastic team of employees have consolidated Vergalle NV’s standing as one of the leading Steel Service Centers (SSC). Since 2010, the third generation is also active in the steel company.
Commitment to sustainable energy
Energy-neutral production is a firm objective that perfectly matches our vision of ecological enterprising and corporate social responsibility. This is reflected in our substantial investments in green energy. Although we already rated highly in terms of green entrepreneurship, we still chose to invest in 4,851 solar panels in 2011. Every year these panels generate approx. 1,200,000 kWh, the equivalent of the energy needs of 350 families. Moreover, they also make an annual CO2 reduction of 840 tonnes possible!
